Sunday, March 8, International Women’s Day 2020. To mark the importance of this date, several actions will be carried out over the next few days in the municipalities of the region.
International Women’s Day is a commemorative date that was made official by the United Nations in the 1970s. This date symbolizes the historic struggle of women to have their conditions equal to those of men. Initially, this date referred to the demand for equal pay, but today it symbolizes women’s struggle not only against wage inequality but also against machismo and violence.

In Barra Mansa, the city will hold meetings throughout the month to address the care and attention of women (international women’s day 2020). During this month, pre-conferences will be held in preparation for April 15th, when the Municipal Women’s Conference takes place, with a time and place yet to be defined.
There will be six pre-conferences that will take place at the Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS), in different districts of the city. These meetings are promoted by the Secretariat for Social Assistance and Human Rights.
The main aim is to bring society (international women’s day 2020) closer to the issues faced by women on a regular basis. The agenda includes topics such as social and financial inequality, harassment, prejudice, and violence.
In Volta Redonda, the municipality launches on Sunday the campaign ‘A Mulher Quer, Mulher Mulher’. The action is coordinated by the Specialized Center for Assistance to Women, of the Secretariat of Public Policies for Women, the Elderly and Human Rights, which will hold a meeting to present the project between 9 am and 1 pm, at the Municipal Library Raul de Leoni.
During the event (international women’s day 2020), there will be lectures and exchange of experiences on the role of women in society, as well as services for women such as massage, beauty treatment, and a craft workshop. There will also be dance performances.
