Prime Minister Imran Khan’s meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa was announced.
According to details, the Prime Minister had a one-on-one meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart to discuss the development of bilateral relations and the situation in the region.
Addressing a press conference with his Sri Lankan counterpart after the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “I am grateful for the invitation and the warm welcome. I have many fond memories of Sri Lanka.”
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan had made many sacrifices against terrorism. Now our country is battling the global epidemic Corona.
He said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka are facing similar challenges. Poor countries were greatly affected by Corona. He also invited his Sri Lankan counterpart to visit Pakistan.
On the occasion, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has agreed to enhance cooperation in various fields and finalize a free trade framework.
Delegation-level talks also took place between the Pakistani and Sri Lankan leadership. The Pakistani delegation was led by Prime Minister Imran Khan while the Sri Lankan delegation was led by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The talks focused on co-operation in various fields, including trade, investment, health, education, agriculture, science and technology. Besides, MoUs were also signed between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Earlier, when Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Colombo on a special flight, the children presented him with flowers. He was received on the red carpet by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minister was taken to the salute platform where the national anthems of both the countries were played. A cannon salute was also given in honor of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also inspected the guard of honor. After a brief ceremony, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister introduced Imran Khan and members of his cabinet.
Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan also recorded the comments in the guest book.
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived in Sri Lanka at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart where he will also meet the Sri Lankan President.
The meetings will focus on promoting bilateral co-operation, including bilateral trade, investment, health and education.
The Prime Minister will also attend the Joint Trade and Investment Conference. The Prime Minister’s visit will be instrumental in promoting relations and cooperation between the two countries.
