According to preliminary results in a referendum on banning the hijab in Switzerland, a majority of the Swiss people voted in favor of the ban.
According to the results from 22 of Switzerland’s 26 cantons, 54% of people voted in favor of banning the niqab.
According to the report, the final result of the referendum will come in the next few hours, while the wearing of hijab and burqa in public places will be legally banned in Switzerland after the results of the referendum.
On the other hand, according to a report, only 5% of Switzerland’s population of 8.6 million are Muslims, the majority of whom are from Turkey, Bosnia and Kosovo.
The report further states that in Switzerland no woman wears the burqa while only 3 women wear the niqab.
It should be noted that the Swiss government is not in favor of banning the hijab, but the referendum was held at the request of the right-wing party, the Swiss People’s Party.
